Up to now, the configuration of facts in the Middle East allowed for someone like Mahmoud Abbas to "represent" the interest of the Palestinian people. However, that configuration is changing, to a great extent thanks to the decisive role of Iran. It is highly probable that the zionist state will try achieve the impossible, that is, to stop the whole proces. Obviously a new leadership is needed, for the military confrontation in the near future seems unavoidable and Palestinians must be prepared.

Mahmoud Abbas is simlpy a puppet of the West. He receives money from them to extend the fruitless "peace process". The people of Palestine know well his dirty role and that he would not win any free election. The West is trying to use another puppet in order to win more time to grab more land and create more obstacles on the ground in order to end the process of liberating Palestine. It is about time to dissolve the corrupt Palestinian Authority and resort back to the struggle to free Palestine.

The Palestinians have been trying, over tha past sixty years, to win world recognition but failed. I think; He knew that there will be no election at all; He planned to get a permanent position; so he pushed PLO to keep him president without any elections; He knows that USA and Arabic government will deal with him what ever was his position; and finally president of PLO will give him more chance to destroy Palestinian issue; as he did with resistance in West bank. hope I am wrong

I think abbas resined because he cant make any progress in any field in Palestine...no real progress in nogossiation that never ends with no use..its the real way for Israeli politics...otherway he cant make any progress with Hamas in Gaza..... i dont think changing faces change politics though i think A shrawi is a modest personality to inhire the chair...though its wooden....

the president of the Palestinian Authority Mr.Abbas has no room of free political movement, specially after he lost confidence in the peace process where he is in between natinyahoo fanatic government and the relaxed Obama administration. He failed as well in convincing Hamas to join a common path and he was under several critics in his own party. His political manouvre is so limited and restricted, which made him unable to fulfil the minimum requirements and hope of Palestinian Poeple.

I would suggest one of the following, HANEYAH or KHALEDE MISHAL as a Prieminister, they demonstrate a great deal of leadership in personality and actions, simply they know how to deal with their opponents. Abbas demonstrate the regular middle east leader model, he stays until he dies, I was surprised that he is going to resign. However, he is not.
